Imagine logging on to a retailers web site and finding the deal of the century: A High Definition TV for just 20 dollars!
Thats what a number of shoppers recently found. But wait till you hear what they then found out.
----------------------
Everyone would like a High Def TV....but fancy Plasma and projection sets can cost a thousand smackeroos or more.
So imagine the thrill going to Kmart's website and finding this: A Hitachi 46 inch High Definition TV clearance priced at just 20 dollars.
"Obviously it was something we all jumped on. We ordered the TV,and it was processed on our credit card."
But when they called to double check their orders, Pete Ahlfeld and his co workers got some bad news.
"I gave her my confirmation number, she basically told me we're not gonna be sending you your tv."
Turns out it was a misprint. A Sears/Kmart spokeswoman tells me "we apologize for any inconvenience. But under the terms of the website, we reserve the right to cancel an order in the event of a pricing error."
Meantime, by law, retailers do not have to honor typos in ads. Example, a 30 thousand dollar new car advertised for $300.
My advice? If a retailer wont honor an advertised price, you should still try to negotiate them down.
Stores want to keep customers...So they may give you a break, even if it isn't the incredible price you saw. So dont waste your money. I'm John Matarese.
