You pull off the Aberdeen exit on 95…take a quick left, then a quick right and there she is…Mamie’s of Aberdeen.
The hand written sign spells out Mamie’s…and underneath you see, “With Love.” When you go inside, its like your family album came to life. You’ll see the old ringer washing machine your grandma has.
Or the Royal typewriter that was used by your favorite Aunt. Oh, and they serve food. All homemade. All affordable. Brenda Weber runs the place in honor of her grandmother, Mamie.
She doesn’t throw anything away, from old pictures, to old furniture to old friends. Brenda learned the restaurant biz from her boss at The Williamsburg. Her second boss, Mr. John, can be found in the kitchen. While waiting for your pot roast, shrimp salad, or free desert, take a look up on the wall and you will see a history of East Baltimore.
If you remember Haussners restaurant, then this is as close to it as we have today. Brenda had some tough times, she lost her restaurant in Hamden and after two years of nothing cooking, she landed in Aberdeen. I hope you visit for the food with a dash of history on the side.
Other specials you will find…Tuesday at Gertie’s…this is Gertrudes and the Baltimore Museum of Art. Tuesday night you’ll find 10 dollar deals. Red Brick Station on Wednesday night…how about steak, potato, salad and a beer for $12.95.
Also on Wednesday, Pazza Luna in Locust Point offers 4 pastas for 10 dollars. Whats your favorite Dine on a Dime place and let me know about any specials.
