Big Mama Robinson. You don’t have to see anything on the menu… you don’t have to read the special signs. All you need to do is ask Big Mama Robinson.
She was a cooking star at the age of 14 when she worked with Leon at his Pig Pen… Remember that place? Now she is helping out Michael and Joe at M&J’s Soul Food Restaurant at the corner of 25
th at St. Paul.
One day last year, M&J stopped at a red light, looked to their right and saw a “For Lease”, sign. They called and after a lot of back and forths they got the place. The old 7-11 is now in Soul Heaven.
Ribs, mac and cheese, greens, mac and cheese, chicken, fish sandwiches and mac and cheese. Price? You get change back from a 20. That’s pretty, pretty good. This area of town has long craved for a decent soul food place and now it has one.
Michael and Joe are looking for more stop lights to open up more restaurants around town. They are eyeing up the Inner Harbor where they want to serve food and play jazz. Not bad for a family that grew up on Gorsuch and Kirk Avenue attended Northern High and now is feeding Baltimore.
Big Mama Robinson welcomes all of you.
