It's was the first stop on Dirty Dining and now it's the last place we're visiting for a second helping: Baltimore City. Now ABC2 News Investigator Joce Sterman tells us what the city restaurants we originally covered have cooked up in the last year.
Charm City is where it all began, with ABC2 going behind the kitchen doors to expose the problems you wouldn't know about otherwise. And now we're back to see if the 15 restaurants whose secrets we revealed have turned up the heat on their health problems or cooled off their bad behavior.
Some of them have stepped up. In fact, since our stories aired last year, eight of the original spots we visited have had no critical food violations, pest problems or closures. That includes Angelo's Pizza in Hamden, Red Fish in Canton, Five Seasons, Midtown Yacht Club, Wendy's and Popeye's on York Road, Broadway and Edmonson.
But a couple others have had problems since our reports. After changing owners, Kristo's was forced to shut its doors twice this year. They were closed once in February for operating without a food license and again in April when their exhaust system broke. The new owner told the health department he wasn't aware of the problem.
As for the problem we told you about at Phillips Express Buffet last year, it seems to be continuing. We mentioned their history of critical food temperature violations in our first report and since then, this seafood hot spot has been cited in three different inspections for putting out or storing food at the wrong temperature. Their public relations firm has not yet responded with a comment. But as we’ve said before, when it comes to restaurants, the reports you rarely see do a lot of talking.
