ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) -- A Howard County jury has acquitted a 19-year old admitted gang member from Owings Mills of murder charges in a Columbia shooting last year, but convicted him on armed robbery and weapons charges. Daymar Wimbish was found not guilty Thursday in the May 2008 death of 23-year-old Jason Batts, who was shot during a robbery attempt of Elijah Jackson, a passenger in Batts's SUV. He faces up to 55 years in prison on the five counts at sentencing, which is scheduled for Sept. 11. Wimbish is the second person arrested in Batts's death to be cleared of a murder charge. Ronald McConnell, another Bloods gang member, was found not guilty of murder last month, but was also convicted of robbery and gun charges. The alleged shooter, Lamont Johnson, is awaiting trial.
