Teen Accused of Attacking Stepfather

Reported by: Jeff Hager
Last Update: 8/18/2009 7:24 pm

15-year old Stan Smith, Jr. who was preparing to enter the tenth grade is now being held at the Harford County Detention Center with no bond.

According to charging documents, Smith struck Lonnie Talbert twice with the bat after his stepdad refused to spend the night at a friend’s house.

Those closest to Smith say he may have snapped after Talbert made a threatening gesture with his fist.

"Stan is a really good kid,” said Jessica Baroch of Edgewood, “He gets good grades.  He goes to Harford Tech.  He's never acted out like this before.  He doesn't have any previous charges."  I've known him for eight years.  He's not this type of person.”

The alleged victim, Smith’s stepfather, has since been arrested and charged with assault in a separate incident involving his daughter.
