JOPPATOWNE, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland woman has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly killing a Kentucky man she says beat and raped her several times in the last week.

The Harford County Sheriff's Department says 59-year-old Charles Shourds of Beaver Dam, Kentucky was shot several times in the upper body. He died in the 600 block of Harborside Drive about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The woman waited at a neighbor's house for police to arrive after allegedly shooting Shourds. She told police he'd beaten and raped her several times in the last week while visiting her.

After being raped Wednesday, the woman told police she showered, got her 9mm pistol and shot Shourds, who was lying on the couch.
