Police Fatally Shot Man Who Pointed Weapon

CHURCH HILL, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say officers shot and killed a man who pointed a weapon at them after he drove 25 miles the wrong way on highways in Queen Anne's County.

Thirty-seven-year-old Christopher Hale of Delmar, Del., was pronounced dead Wednesday morning on Md. Route 300 in Church Hill.

A trooper traveling westbound on Md. Route 50 Wednesday about 5:30 a.m. spotted a vehicle headed toward him and swerved out of the way. An officer with the Maryland Transportation Authority

Police saw what happened and both pursued the car. The vehicle was finally disabled by stop sticks.

State police say when a trooper approached the vehicle, Hale pointed a black handgun at him. Officers then shot and killed him.

The gun, a Crossman BB gun, was a replica of a semiautomatic pistol.
