Cambridge Officer Assaulted

Cambridge police say a woman assaulted an officer trying to arrest a 9-year-old boy he saw assaulting a younger boy.

Charging documents state Pfc. James McDaniel saw the 9-year-old boy assaulting a 7-year-old boy near the Sailwinds Park Visitor's Center on Saturday.

But when McDaniel tried to arrest the 9-year-old, police say 30-year-old Siante Northrope of Cambridge intervened, became combative and pushed the officer.

Northrope and the 9-year-old were arrested. Northrope was charged with second-degree assault and resisting arrest and was released on $20,000 bond. The boy was charged with second-degree assault and resisting arrest.

The Department of Juvenile Services released the boy to a parent or guardian. The 7-year-old boy was taken to Dorchester General Hospital and was treated and released.
