A quiet Carroll County community, shaken by a police-involved shooting.

State Police say a Taneytown police officer shot a man trying to run down the officer and a woman he was helping. It happened in the 400-block of Baltimore Street at around 10:30 last night.

The officer was responding to a report of a woman who needed help.  Police say the officer found a woman lying in a nearby access road and got out to help.  An Acura Integra started accelerating toward the officer and the woman, and police say it did not stop when ordered by the officer.

Police say, that's when the officer fired at the driver, hitting him in the arm.  The suspect was flown to Shock Trauma for treatment.  Police have no apparent motive at this time, but investigators say the man and woman knew each other.
