SYKESVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police have arrested a state hospital patient who allegedly attacked three workers with a butter knife in Sykesville.
Police went to Springfield Hospital about 10 p.m. Tuesday for reports of a patient cutting nursing staff. When police arrived, hospital staff and security had restrained the 52-year-old man.
Authorities said he tried to stab a staff member. The employee received a minor cut on the chest and fought the man off.
Police said another employee was cut on the neck and another worker's face, hands and chest were cut before the patient was subdued.
State regulations don't allow police to identify the man because a court ordered him to be committed. He is being held without bond on attempted murder, weapon and assault charges.
