New Information On Baltimore Rapes

Last Update: 11/19/2009 11:13 am

Baltimore police say they are now looking for two suspects in a series of rapes on the city's east side.

Until now, police thought the same man had carried out at least two of the attacks.  That's because both of those victims were assaulted as they waited at bus stops.  But investigators say DNA evidence reveals the Colvin Street rape, October 31st, is not connected to the others.

Baltimore police now are increasing foot patrols, handing out flyers and setting up a task force to investigate a series of rapes in the city.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says officers also will conduct a community forum at Knox Presbyterian Church Thursday evening at which residents can get updates on the investigation and ask police questions.

He says the chief of patrol met with City Hall representatives on Wednesday and asked for help in clearing vacant lots and removing abandoned cars. Reverse 911 calls will be made to residents informing them of the rapes.

Guglielmi said that anyone with information about the crimes should call the 24-hour tip line at 888-223-0033.
