Emily has had a fascination with weather from the time she was little. She grew up in Suffield, a small town in northern Connecticut. The first time she saw hail from a thunderstorm, she was hooked!
She received her degree in Atmospheric Science from The University of North Carolina Asheville where she was the president of the school’s chapter of the American Meteorological Society. She discovered her love for broadcast meteorology during an internship at WLOS in Asheville.
Emily started her career in Atlanta as a Graphics Meteorologist for The Weather Channel. While working at The Weather Channel during the very active 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons, Emily became passionate about tropical weather. She worked many overnight hours to ensure that the most up-to-date information was relayed on-air.
In 2006, Emily made the move from Georgia to Maryland at which point she went to work for The American Meteorological Society in Washington D.C. In March 2007 she joined the ABC 2 Storm Team. She feels very lucky every day to finally be doing what she loves. Her favorite part of the job is doing live shots outside in the snow!
Emily enjoys spending time with her wonderful husband and neighborhood friends on Kent Island and taking her golden retriever, Mackenzie, for walks on the Cross Island Trail. She loves doing anything outside, especially running. She also enjoys reading, cooking, knitting, and watching her favorite ABC shows, Grey’s Anatomy and Lost!
She loves to hear from viewers, so send her an email with your comments, questions, and weather story ideas!
