Trust the average 'fundamentalist Christian' American to become incensed over a phrase that Matell has indicated is a mere 'power of suggestion', and more importantly, one from a doll which "speaks"* positively about Islam. Had the doll been reported to have said 'Jesus is the light' there would be a stampede to Wall-Mart to purchase this cooing doll! Advice to your Muslim veiwers: rush out to purchase this doll NOW- before Matell pulls it from the shelves when some corporate 'do gooder' hears it say "Islam is the light" and hurriedly sends out the memo to all stores which will have the voice silenced by banning the dolls' sales. (*As for the doll, the little girl's voice does indeed say "Islam is the light" in understandable English. It can be heard quite plainly between the normal babble of a baby in the multiple clips which are on the web.) Too bad the Eid al Fitr-the holiday signaling the end of Ramadan, is over, for this doll would have made a marvelous present for Muslim parents to have given to their young daughters.

I purchased one $50. ticket, on the website and was told I would receive a "Ticket Number," this was yesterday, Thursday and today, Friday at 4:30pm and have NOT received my ticket number. It could also be white, fight, sight, right, might, kite, height, or any other number of words that rhyme with light. This is what phonetics is all about. I listened to this doll over and over and heard nothing but babbling sounds. (As a note I have a background in Speech Pathology, although this by no means makes me the final say on the subject - it is just to say I have a lot of practice listening to speech samples).

I think that whoever first complained that this doll is "talking" about Islam had entirely too much time on their hands. I've listened to the recording posted on this site and all I can get out of it is baby babble. It might be saying "light" at the end, but it could just as easily be saying "night." The only thing clear is the "ight." I think it's ridiculous that this is what people are choosing to get offended over. It's just a doll for goodness sake. Find better things to do with your time. There are real atrocities in the world that could certainly benefit from this amount of attention.
