BALTIMORE - A Meridian, Miss.-based Anheuser-Busch beverage wholesaler has recently purchased Winner Distributing and a percentage in F.P. Winner Ltd. in Baltimore.
According to a news release from Mitchell Distributing, the company will take over Winner Distributing, which is the Anheuser-Busch distributor in Baltimore city and county.
In addition, Mitchell will also purchase a stake in F.P. Winner, which distributes Corona, Pabst, Sierra Nevada, Dogfish Head and Diageo for the entire state of Maryland. Both companies will be operated from a single warehouse in Baltimore instead of its current two-facility operation.
The announcement of the sale comes just weeks after Winner notified the state that it was laying off 125 employees and closing its Canton Center Drive facility in Baltimore County. Mitchell spokeswoman Kristy Riley said the company is working to determine how many current Winner employees will stay on once the sale is finalized.
"It's an incredible opportunity to expand our companies and I'm grateful for the experienced management team that will help us lead this change," said Mitchell Distributing CEO Manny Mitchell in a statement. “We are excited to work with Marc [Winner] and his team as we invest and grow the brands in this market."
Mitchell Distributing is a family-owned with roots dating back to the 1940s. The expansion to Baltimore is the first for the company since 2008 when Mitchell acquired Cash Distributing in Columbus and Tupelo, Miss.
