Predators are lurking in all corners of the Internet. Musical.ly is yet another reason why parents should be monitoring the apps their kids are using.
The app is really popular among middle and high schoolers. Musical.ly allows users to make their own music videos and share them with each other. However, if their profiles aren't private, anyone can see those videos.
"We're getting complaints now that kids are going, 'hey somebody is talking nasty to me about my video,'" said Mike Harris, an officer investigating online crimes in Ohio. "And their intent is just to show and try to be the next pop queen or pop star."
Those comments can be avoided by making Musical.ly profiles private, but predators sending inappropriate messages aren't the only problems with this app.
When children search for videos, the results can be pornographic.
"Those are images and video format that are hard to remove from a young person's mind," said Chris McKenna, a member of Protect Young Eyes. "The difference between awful and awesome when it comes to technology is just one click."
