If it seems too good to be true, then it probably is. Facebook users should beware of scams during the holiday season.

USA Today said thousands of people were tricked out of their money due to the following scams:

  • The Facebook lottery scam told users to send money to collect winnings that don’t exists.
  • The secret sister holiday gift scam claimed if they bought one gift they’d get 36 gifts back. Users didn’t get anything in return.
  • The free airline ticket scam promised a free plane trip if users liked a page and shared it. Thieves  used this scam to get personal information.

Experts said to avoid these scams, make sure the contest is from a legitimate company.
