Thousands of Maryland consumers who bought e-books from Apple will share millions in credits and checks with consumers from over 30 other states.

The checks or credits that will be awarded to consumers will be determined based on the number of e-books purchased from April 1, 2010, and May 21, 2012—the time that the alleged price-fixing occurred.

Books from the New York Times bestseller list are credited at $6.93 per book, while all other books are credited at $1.57 per book. Credits can be used for a year to purchase e-books or anything else the retailer sells.

Customers should get an email by June 24 confirming the credit in their account. Apple customers will get an email from “e-books Settlement Administrator” with the subject line “E-books Settlement Credit.

Apple is handing over the payment to consumers after the conclusion of a price-fixing case that was brought against them. Maryland and 32 other states and territories filed suit against Apple and five major e-book publishers, charging the companies with conspiring to artificially raise prices.
