CVS pharmacy customers will soon be able to shop using only a smartphone.

The nation's largest drug store chain launched CVS Pay, a new payment method that allows shoppers to pay for purchases with the scan of a barcode at the register.

The app, part of the CVS Pharmacy mobile app, combines payment, prescription pickups and the pharmacy’s rewards card.

Customers can use CVS Pay to refill and manage prescriptions and then pick up and pay using a single barcode. Shoppers upload credit or debit card information into the app and then present the app’s barcode to a sales associates during checkout.

Store officials said the new payment method makes transactions “hassle free.”

The app will be available nationwide for iOS and Android later this year.
