One visit to Downtown Annapolis isn’t enough to explore the gems hidden around every corner. Small Business Saturday is the perfect opportunity to explore the charming streets and shops in the capitol.
Several businesses are participating in Small Businesses Saturday on Nov. 26 with sales and a celebration of all things local.
The Annapolis Bookstore will feature local authors, artists and musicians on Small Business Saturday. Kids can write letters to Santa Claus and send them off to the North Pole in a red mail box at the writing station. Visitors can enjoy hot chocolate and cookies as they shop the bookstore’s big sale.
The Annapolis Bookstore Owner Mary Adams believes supporting small businesses is vital to the local economy.
“Small businesses hire local employees and our taxes add to the local economy. It’s important to buy local if people want a downtown,” said Adams. “If you buy online there will be no stores to support. Small businesses are hanging on by a thread.”
The Annapolis Bookstore is located at 53 Maryland Ave.
Ritu Sudershan, owner of Ekaa – Hands That Create, thinks small businesses add something else.
“Small businesses have the most soul to them. You’re buying something handcrafted that took time to make,” she said. “When you surround yourself with these handmade items, you’re spreading that energy into your life. You’re supporting humanity and culture.”
Ekaa sells authentic Indian clothing, accessories, perfumes, incense spiritual items and more. The shop will have items 15 to 20 percent off and offer food and snacks on Saturday.
Ekaa is located at 68 Maryland Ave. across from the bookstore.
A visit to Annabeth’s will be rewarded with tasting from local businesses. Customer can try juice from Lumi Cold Press Juices between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Annabeth’s will host Wines with Christy from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Great Frogs Winery between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Annabeth’s is located at 46 Maryland Ave.
Brown-Eyed Girl, located at 234 Main St., will have cookies and reusable bags for customers.
Fashion boutique Lilac Bijoux will have macaroons and offer an extra 20 percent off sale items. Balloons and a gift will be given away with each purchase. Lilac Bijoux is located at 145 Main St.
Lil Lamb Shop, a children’s clothing store, will have almost everything in the store marked down 30 percent. The shop is located at 44 Maryland Ave.

The shopping holiday started in 2010 supported by American Express. It occurs the Saturday after Thanksgiving, in between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. By 2015, 95 million people shopped at a small business on the day.
