Ukazoo Books is closing their Towson store Dec. 15. Store owners are hoping to downsize and reopen a new store, but so far do not have a new location.

"We're moving, we know we want to open a store, but I can't tell you where it will be," said owner Edward Whitfill.

Whitfill is one of Ukazoo Books' four owners. He said they would like to remain within a 5 miles radius of the store on Dulaney Valley Road.

The store opened nine years ago and has become a staple in the community, Whitfill said.

"Without book stores to support the locals, you lose something in the community," he said.

Store owners were preparing to purchase a building in Parkville to reopen the store. Unfortunately, the sale fell through. Since announcing the failed purchase on Facebook, Whitfill said the community response was incredible. He said they received calls from agents as well as community organizations asking them to open in their neighborhoods.

Whitfill said he and the other owners are currently looking at nine or so locations that have all come to their attention in the past week. He's optimistic that Ukazoo Books will be able to find a new location, he just wants to make sure it's the best location for the store.

"I'd love to announce a new location before we shut our doors here," he said. "I'm sad the first place fell through, we're looking to correct that."

For now, Ukazoo Books is running a moving sale. Used books are 40 percent off, new books are 20 percent off and games and toys are 25 percent off of retail.

The store's lease ends Dec. 15 and a new tenant is set to move in. Whitfill said they will have to close a few days before then, but an official closing date has not yet been announced.
