Here's a look at other major airlines' policies when it comes to charging for baggage.

American Airlines

In some cases, you won't have to pay the baggage fees for up to three bags, but it depends on your status with the airline. In general, passengers must pay $25 per checked bag, according to the airline.

British Airways

Fees for checked bags vary depending on the cabin you're traveling in, your frequent flyer member status and other factors.

Fees for the first and second checked bags vary based on your flight destination. Here's a complete breakdown of fees.

JetBlue

Baggage fees vary depending on whether you are a Blue, Blue Plus or Blue Flex member. Blue members play $20 or $25, depending on whether they are buying online or at the ticket counter, $35 for a second bag and $100 each for a third bag and any additional bags. Learn more here.

Southwest Airlines

Customers' first two bags fly for free, a rarity for airlines. Weight and size limits apply.

Spirit Airlines

One personal item is included with a Bare Fare. That's something like a small backpack or purse that fits entirely in a box sized 16" by 14" by 12." For travel after April 3, 2017, the maximum dimensions are 18" by 14" by 8." You need to pay for any additional/larger bags.
