Deja vu for Samsung customers. There's a new recall for cell phone batteries, because they can overheat.
This time it affects the Galaxy Note 4. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is recalling 10,000 refurbished batteries.
This is very different from the Galaxy Note 7 recall. This isn't over a design flaw that effects every phone. In this case only batteries installed in refurbished Note 4 phones by FedEx Supply Chain and distributed through AT&T's insurance program are impacted by the recall.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says some of the batteries installed in the phones are counterfeit, and are in danger of overheating. Right now FedEx is sending out replacement batteries to customers who received a refurbished batter between last December and this past April.
So far there's only been one report of a battery overheating, no injuries or damage has been reported. However, the commission is encouraging anyone with a Note 4 affected by the recall to stop using the phone and turn it off.
This comes as Samsung is set to reveal the latest model in the Note series next week.
