3.4 million dehumidifiers recalled over smoke, fire risk

About 3.4 million dehumidifiers have been recalled because they can overheat and catch fire. 

GD Midea issued the recall on products sold from January 2003 to December 2013 under dozens of popular brand names.

The manufacturer received 38 reports of smoke and fire, causing about $4.8 million in property damage.

Owners will receive either a replacement unit or partial refund.
