Remember the fear of paying $4 a gallon for gas?

That may be a thing of the past.

Gas prices are expected to fall below $2 a gallon this fall and stay there through the winter, according to The U.S. Energy Department.

That's mostly due the prolonged slump in oil prices and the switch to the winter blend of gasoline, which is cheaper to make.

According to AAA, the national average is $2.12 for a gallon of of regular unleaded gas.
