A hoax that comes up every few months on Facebook has surfaced on the social network again.
Facebook users concerned about their privacy posted statuses saying they were denying the website permission to use their pictures, information or posts, and that the contents of their profiles were private and confidential.

Posters then encouraged other users to copy and paste the status to their own profiles to protect themselves.
Unfortunately, such a status means nothing.
Snopes.com debunked the legitimacy of such statuses earlier this year, pointing out that "Facebook users cannot retroactively negate any of the privacy or copyright terms they agreed to when they signed up for their accounts, nor can they unilaterally alter or contradict any new privacy or copyright terms instituted by Facebook, simply by posting a contrary legal notice on their Facebook walls."
Friends keep cutting/pasting that Facebook privacy hoax, meaning I still know people who will fall for an email scam if I need quick money.
