EWG released the 2016 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce. According to the study, nearly 75 percent of the produce samples tested by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2014 contained pesticide residue.
The best way to avoid pesticides in produce is to buy organic. Unfortunately, that's not always financially possible. EWG's shopper guide helps identify conventionally grown fruits and vegetables that tend to test lower for pesticide residues.
Here's the conventionally grown produce that ranked highest in pesticide residue:
12. Cucumbers
11. Cherry Tomatoes
10. Bell Peppers
9. Tomatoes
8. Spinach
7. Cherries
6. Grapes
5. Celery
4. Peaches
3. Nectarines
2. Apples
1. Strawberries
