Around this time of the summer, things can get pretty pocket-draining and monotonous. You might be tired of always going to the movies or the mall and you've been to the same places in the city a million times. Well, here are some unique and, of course, free things for college students to do this summer while in Baltimore.

ArtScape Festival

America’s largest free arts festival takes place ever year in Baltimore. The Artscape festival features more than 150 fine artists, fashion designers and crafters, live concerts, performing arts, hands-on projects, competitions, food and even more entertainment. Arstcape takes place this year from July 15-17. It will take place in the several neighborhoods including Mount Royal Avenue & Cathedral Street, Charles Street, Bolton Hill and Station North Arts & Entertainment District. Visit www.artscape.org for more details.

Baltimore Tattoo Museum

Check out the edgy world of tattoos at the Baltimore Tattoo Museum. There are plenty of original tattoo art pieces and vintage tattoo tools on display starting from the World War II era. There is also a tattoo parlor adjacent to the museum, in case you’re inspired to get some ink yourself.

Power Plant Live! performances

Enjoy free summer concerts at the Power Plant Live! outdoor stage. Local and national artists perform for the crowds on Friday evenings in the Inner Harbor. Check out www.powerplantlive.com/summerconcerts for a list of upcoming performances.

Outdoor Movies

Plenty of sites offer free, outdoor entertainment during the year. Fell’s Point hosts Films on the Pier every Wednesday night beginning at 8:45 p.m. On Thursdays, Federal Hill will show a free film after dusk at Flicks from the Hill, which is sponsored by the American Visionary Art Museum. Additionally, admission to the museum is free between 5 and 9 p.m. for these “flick days.”

You can also see Italian-themed movies and enjoy live music in Little ltaly, located at the intersection of High and Stiles streets. The entertainment takes place Fridays nights starting at 7 p.m.

Stargazing Fridays

Experience the gorgeous summer sky at the open-air, rooftop observatory in the middle of the city. The Maryland Science Center hosts Stargazing Fridays from 5:30-9 p.m. Visitors can peek at the stars with the center’s 10-foot telescope.
