As we countdown to Christmas, we're also counting down the top 12 scams of the holiday season.

Look-alike websites trick consumers into divulging their personal information.

This time of year, email accounts are flooded with the latest deals and sales, but not all of those messages are from actual retailers. They could be fraudsters trying to get you to click on a link that downloads malware or takes you to a page that requests personal information.

The Better Business Bureau recommends always reviewing the sender's address, looking for misspellings in the email, hovering over any links to see where they reroute, and only enter sensitive information into websites that start with "HTTPS.” The "s" shows that the site is secure.

And remember, to submit any complaints to the BBB or FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
