The Disney Dreamers Academy is a four day, three night, all-expense paid workshop in Orlando, Florida. It is sponsored by comedian and host Steve Harvey and Essence Magazine.
One-hundred high school students are selected through a strenuous application process. I was one of those selected for the 2016 event.
Participants are reminded continuously that, “dreams do come true.” They get an opportunity to work with professionals in their field of interest. The students are encouraged to network and to establish meaningful friendships to serve as support as the Dreamers work to accomplish their goals.
Disney Dreamers are paired with professionals in different careers, from medicine to acting and the culinary arts.
Student Selena G. said, “What made me want to be a part of Disney dreamer academy was honestly the experience and the knowledge that's going to be dropped into me this weekend. I'm going to make sure that I take away everything that I’ve learned and soak it all in."
Personally, I discovered that with persistence and determination and just being open to new ideas you can accomplish anything.
The Disney Dreamers Academy requires applicants to be intellectually curious, creative, quick-witted, compassionate, courageous, and a "go-to" person, who pursues ideas with passion.
If you think you have what it takes, make sure you apply for next year’s trip.
The application for 2017 opens April 11th. For more information go to www.disneydreamersacademy.com .
