Local Teen Helps Homeless While Teaching The Lesson of Compassion

OWINGS MILLS - Jack Jankowski sits down with Laya Neelakandan, a Freshman at McDonogh School, to talk to her about working with the homeless in Baltimore.

Laya works with the first graders at her school to make blankets and hygiene kits for those living on the streets in the inner-city.

She has received grants from major corporations such as Disney's Summer of Service to help fund her efforts to make lives better downtown.

She and her teacher talk about the impact it has had on the first graders as they learn the great lesson of service and compassion.
