Allison Bourg

I’ve been writing stories since I was in grade school, when I started my own neighborhood newspaper (written by hand and distributed mostly to members of my family).

When and why did you join WMAR?

February 2014, when I took a job here as a digital reporter. As a longtime newspaper reporter, I was excited about the way ABC2 is embracing digital journalism, as well as its dedication to in-depth reporting. We are embracing the future of journalism every day here.

Where else have you worked and what was your oddest job?

I previously worked at The Capital newspaper in Annapolis, and before that I was at the Altoona Mirror in Altoona, Pa. It's hard to remember my work life before journalism, but my weirdest job to date was when I worked at a mall kiosk in the summer of 1999 selling Beanie Babies to obsessed collectors.

What are you most proud of when it comes to your work?

I really strive to be fair to all sides, and I think that comes across in my stories.

Interesting fact(s) about your personal life?

I'm an avid runner and I enjoy running long-distance races for fun. I haven't done a marathon yet, but maybe someday if I can find the time to train for it. I also am a fan of Zumba and kickboxing.

All-time favorite movie and song? Why?

I have a lot. Whitney Houston (R.I.P.) is my favorite singer, so I'll name my favorite song of hers, I Wanna Dance With Somebody. I've loved that song since I was 7 years old! As far as movies go, Mean Girls is a perennial favorite.

Apps you can't live without?

Aside from the obvious, the ABC2 app and Storm Shield, I need my social media apps-- Instagram, Twitter and Facebook-- and the shopping app Rue La La for news of daily deals on designer goods.
