Rob Carlin joined the ABC2 sports department in August of 2006. Rob anchors the sports on weekends and reports during the week. Rob is not new to the Charm City. A “Terp For Life”, Rob graduated from the University of Maryland in 1995. He then worked as a sports producer at an “enemy” tv station in town as well as reporting and producing at WJFK radio.

Rob’s first on-air gig came in November of 1997 at WMDT (ABC affiliate) in Salisbury, MD. During his time on the Eastern Shore, Rob won an AP award for best story. A native New Yorker, Rob grew up a big Mets fan (not the Yankees, he hates them as much as O’s fans do!!) but quickly became part of the “Shorebirds Nation”. Rob covered current O’s stars Brian Roberts and Erik Bedard as they began their careers for Delmarva, and was at Perdue Stadium when the ‘Birds won the SAL title.

From Salisbury, Rob moved to WVTM (NBC affiliate) in Birmingham, AL. It was certainly a different lifestyle down south, y’all, but Rob enjoyed every moment. For a college football fan, there is no place better in the country. He had the opportunity to cover the SEC for 4 years and was lucky enough to spend his Saturdays at some of college football’s greatest venues, whether it was Jordan-Hare Stadium at Auburn or Bryant-Denny Stadium at Alabama. He dove into the Swamp in Florida and survived Death Valley at LSU. He called the pigs (pig-sooey) at Arkansas and scaled ol’ Rocky Top at Tennessee. Plus, if you’re ever in Birmingham, make sure you stop at Dreamland. The ribs are to die for!!

Rob was at the Georgia Dome as a fan when Maryland won the 2002 national title but, as of the day he was hired at ABC2, still hadn’t seen the trophy at Comcast Center so he plans on attending as many Terps games as possible. He’s excited to be back in his home-away-from-home here in Baltimore and hopes to add Super Bowl and World Series trips to his professional resume.
